FORMER COMMUNICATIONS 141 BATTALION - CURRENT CAMPUS OF THE PROVINCIAL UNIVERSITY OF CÓRDOBA
The former Communications 141 Battalion was created in 1936, and during the last civil-military dictatorship, it was the intelligence center for the Army (General Iribarren Intelligence Detachment) where different security entities based in Cordoba held their meetings and set guidelines for the perpetration of state terrorism.
In the South campus of the Provincial University of Cordoba, there is a set of (9) interactive sculptural and photographic pieces that make the Kinetics Memorial Park. These artistic symbols refer to the old regiment that functioned there and to the State Terrorism. These sculptures were the result of a meeting experience that started with photography classes where classroom ideas and reflections arose among a group of students, teachers, and institutional teams, and that combined design, photography, architecture and cultural management to install these memorial symbols.
There is also a small square (ground Zero) that collects general references of the works of art, and it provides the location of each one of the pieces in the site. A tree stands as a symbol of a soldier’s life; he was kidnapped there and is still missing.
At the entrance of the Ciudad de las Artes (City of the Arts), there is a painting by the plastic artist Pont Vergez (piece that was donated by his family) and that pays homage to those missing in Cordoba, with a marble plaque that reminds visitors that this was the place where the Army had its intelligence center. Also, at the entrance of Figueroa Alcorta Art School, there is a marble sculpture named El grito (The scream), by sculptor master Mario Rosso, a piece that was donated by his family, and that was placed there on the 2022 Memorial Week. These are the memorial foundations and symbols that connect the past with the present.
